im name is 'Chan Wing Yan', you can call me 'Ah Yan',for non-Chinese speaking people, they can call me 'Yan', nothing wrong with that.7PB8K

Japanese people for instance, 小森美樹, people call her 美樹...美樹.... feel so good, they dont use English name such as John, Peter etc because they're proud with their national identity.
HK Chinese with English name are strange inside many foreigners eyes who never been to HK, mostly base on the British colonial background, that local Chinese have to please British by not accepting their Chinese identity...and British promote English is the most important language in HK to persuade Chinese residents... anyway its a historical topic.

You have misunderstood what i just said~$A0[+X#pD/SX
i meant like u just met someone and you just introduced urself, Hi my name is Chan Wing yan~
then usually, as the hk culture I know, that person will call ur chan wing yan for at least few days to becoming freindly enough to call ar yan~
HK#@ojP
But if you introduce in english, HI my name is Chan wing yan, english name call erik, then that person can call u erik instead of Erik Chan or Chan wing yan~
之但係咁多港人都改個英文名又的確係好古怪f"`|[\-h{

大眾所作的就盲目跟隨 這是中國人的習性!-b"J*b-ab'w3jP@p4}

Why can't we have English names?
I thought its only another way to call yourself~~~~

Good to see many feedbacks here...
Elisa, yes you can have your English name, up to you!
I didnt say we can't use English name, its just a joke in foreigner's eyes je ma.
Elisa, are you male or female? Are you Chinese or English?
