Jermaine Jenas has escaped a suspension after his red card in the 2-0 defeat to Arsenal was reduced to a yellow.

The Newcastle United midfielder was sent off at Highbury on Sunday following a challenge on Gilberto Silva.

Jenas was dismissed by referee Steve Bennett for the first-half incident which had a major impact on the outcome of the game.

Newcastle played on valiantly with ten men but succumbed to two late goals from Arsenal, with Magpies boss Graeme Souness reluctant to filter-004 the issue after the game.

Bennett, who appeared unsighted when the tackle was made, has now reviewed the video of the challenge and requested the red card be reduced to a yellow.

The Football Association have confirmed the suspension has been lifted, with Newcastle revealing that Bennett has apologised for his mistake.
"Steve Bennett has been in touch via letter with manager Graeme Souness, Jermaine Jenas and the rest of the squad to apologise for his error of judgement during Sunday's game against Arsenal," read a Newcastle statement.

"He has requested that The Football Association downgrade the dismissal to a yellow card and this has been confirmed by The FA."

England international Jenas has now avoided a three-game suspension and will be available for this weekend's clash with West Ham United.

雲格︰贊拿斯值得紅牌

阿仙奴領隊雲格表示，球證驅逐贊拿斯離場的決定絕對正確。

雲格認為，那一記是個危險攔截，因此絕對需要判罰紅牌離場。

阿仙奴無意斟贊拿斯

阿仙奴領隊雲格指他無意收購紐卡素中場贊拿斯。

該名廿二歲球員在周日球隊負予阿仙奴一仗中，上半場領取紅牌離場。

「他是一個好球員，不過現階段我們無意收購。我只希望觀看他比賽。」雲格道。

周日僅為贊拿斯職業生涯首次拿取紅牌，他已承認在紐卡素並不愉快，而熱刺被傳會以現金加簡路迪換取贊拿斯加盟。

該名中場將要停賽三場，直到八月底轉會市場關閉前他都不能上陣。
