UBUNTU is Women of Color and Survivor-led.  This means that we emphasize people most affected by sexual violence as public representatives of the group (i.e., media, mobilizations, public  ...
please use common sense and pick the most common definition

Ubuntu (IPA: [uːˈbuːntuː] in English,[2] [ùɓúntú] in Zulu) is a computer operating system based on Debian GNU/Linux. Its name comes from the Zulu word "ubuntu", translated as "humanity to others", describing the ubuntu philosophy: "I am what I am because of who we all are", a positive aspect of community. Ubuntu's goals include providing an up-to-date, stable operating system for the average user, with a strong focus on usabilityand ease of installation. Ubuntu has been rated as the most popularLinux distribution for the desktop, claiming approximately 30% ofdesktop Linux installations in 2007.[3]

When most of the people are considering if Window 7 going to dominate the future OS, and the rest of anti-window user are going back to Apple Mac OS X, you're telling me picking up Linux are common  ...
The thing with Linux is that it is programmable, and not just that, most servers are using Linux because it is programmable. The difference between Win7/Apple OSX and Linux is just that, and that makes a huge difference. Windows 7 and OS X will not dominate the entire future OS, quite simply because they both have flaws in them. I've seen Win 7 in action, it's really good but it's just an upgraded Vista. The world of computers are still stuck with the same interface systems, the last great change was the USB or maybe DVDs, it's not like they've found a new form of storage of information. OSX, i work with it every day, and it works better than Vista/XP. Quite simply, when a program freezes, the OS will isolate the program by itself and doesn't affect the entire system. With Vista/7 there's a feature called virtualization which will do that, but Apple has been doing that for ages. Just copying your competition will not bring any better changes. It's just one company emulating another, there's not strive to improve, just "follow the leader".

Linux has a huge cult following, mostly people who can write codes. The difference is that Linux is open source and people are customizing the OS to do what they want. That's a huge difference, both Windows and OSX make people conform to what they are pre-set to do. It makes the entire industry a one size fits all, do what we tell you to, we update when we want you, type of thing. Which is not too great because they are leaning on the fact that most people cannot code. Linux is people sharing their code, it's actually quite closer to what the industry currently calls the "Web 2.0" where information is shared and not privatized. The future isn't in big companies that hog all the resources and hide all the information, when they die because of a economic meltdown, the machines that require these interfaces will become obsolete and will no longer work.

Your key word is "Programmable",  if it is so programmable, why there are so many applications are not working with Linux.  In today business world, there is no time to wait for a Linux to be mature ...
That's the same thing as asking why do aquariums don't sell oranges, most of the programs out there are designed by either Microsoft or designated to work on Microsoft OS only. Just because the market is supersaturated with Microsoft programs, it doesn't mean that Linux is obsolete. In fact, do you realize that over 90% of the PC gaming network don't use Macs because games don't WORK on macs? Yes, the programs are designed to work on Windows only.

In my opinion, Ubuntu is mature enough for the market already, sure it doesn't use a lot of commercialized software like MS Office, but it uses the GNU OpenOffice. Web 2.0 is all about information sharing, Piratebay's trial is showing that already. GNU is definitely the new way out, why fork over hundreds and hundreds of dollars when you can use a simpler version for free? Programs like Open Office, or even Google Docs provide the user with the simplest version of a word processor, of course, if you need something fancier you can ALWAYS buy MS Office. These GNU software don't prohibit you from using the commercial brand, in fact, most of the GNU software are compatible with these commercial software. However, this is not the other way around, commercial software will always inhibit your backwards compatibility, even MS Works will NOT load in MS Word. They are both made by Microsoft, but they inhibit each others' functions so you HAVE to pay to get the files converted. This is BULLSHiT.

GNU software is not about "stealing" or "cloning" they give proper credit to the people who thought of the idea first, but they don't have to pay the royalties. Just because you thought of a word processor on the computer, it doesn't mean you can have a monopoly on the market, other people can code and design too.

My computer runs on a Windows Vista/ virtual box Ubuntu. Linux has come a long way from the haydays of having to programing every step, it's taken on a more user-friendly approach with GUI (graphics user interface).

I don't know what you have against Linux, and my original question was if anyone is familiar with Ubuntu, I am not here to promote Linux, just trying to get to know the OS better before you went psycho on me.

All I can say is: You really don't understand marketing...  Ideal are far far beyond marketing.  technology will not exist with marketing.  While most of the products are free when it's marketing do ...
Of course marketing is important, but marketing isn't just about what you see on tv. Look at Mozilla Firefox, the original Firefox (then called Firebird) was created by a team that was developing Netscape Navigator as a GNU product. And while Netscape Navigator is now officially dead, no one can say that Firefox is near dead. IE still has over 70% of the market share, and no matter how good Firefox is, IE is still the primary internet browser, just quite simply because it comes with the computer. Then there are Macs who use both FF and Safari, are they obsolete too? Just because you don't see some fancy marketing scheme, it doesn't mean the product isn't being brought to the public.

In fact marketing can be conducted through word-of-mouth, when one person talks to another.
