名宿們都集體表態反對謝四打止痛針上陣.............

ENGLAND legends have warned Steven Gerrard not to risk his health for the
sake of football.

The Liverpool midfield ace is set to have a painkilling injection so he can
play in Saturday’s crucial Euro 2008 qualifier against Israel at Wembley
despite a broken toe.

But former Arsenal and England midfielder Ray Parlour says Stevie G must
think about his future when considering turning out with the aid of a
cortisone jab.

Parlour said: “No one can say that having a cortisone injection is a good
thing. I had a few in my career and, while it allows you to play in an
important game, the first thing you notice the day after is that it hurts
like hell.

“I still have a sore left knee and some of that comes from playing when
maybe I shouldn’t have.

“If I were a motor they would describe me as high mileage. But reliable!

“The medical knowledge is a lot better now than it was then. There are a
few players who were around in the 70s who have arthritis or worse as a
result of injections.

“Thankfully, we know a bit more about the long-term effects now and Stevie
will be warned before deciding.”

Parlour admits it is a real tug of the heartstrings when faced with the
poser of whether or not to play for your country when you are not 100 per
cent fit.

But he urged Gerrard to think long and hard before making up his mind on any
treatment.

The Romford Pele added: “It’s a huge dilemma for a player. Obviously you
want to play for your country because there is no greater honour.

“The positives of having an injection are that you can play but, if you do,
you have to approach it with a clear mind.

“You can’t allow it to prey on your mind because it will only stop you
more than playing with the injury in the first place.

“Luckily, for Stevie he’s got good medical people like Gary Lewin to
advise him and he will be very clear on the pros and cons before taking any
decision.”

Former Tottenham and England defender Gary Stevens also believes it is a bad
idea.

His career was ended by an horrendous knee injury — and he cannot see why
players would take extra risks in such a precarious profession.

Stevens, now a football pundit for talkSPORT radio, said: “They can give
you one of these injections that would allow you to put your hand in the
fire without feeling the pain — but would you want to do it?

“Injuries are a fact of life for a footballer and that is something you’ve
got no control over.

“But what you can control is how you deal with them.

“People say it is worth the risk because this game is so important — but I
can’t buy that one.

“If you would not be prepared to have an injection for a meaningless match
against a team of minnows, why do it when qualification is at stake?

“You have to decide what is more important, your health or your job.

“And I would choose health every time, especially after what I went
through. In my case, even a complete knee reconstruction never worked.

“It was a reminder of how thin the line is between being a success and
fading into football obscurity.

“I had painkilling injections early in my career but only for deep bruising
or things like that — never for something that could be made worse because
you couldn’t feel what you were doing to your body.

“There will always be a risk of doing further damage in situations like
this.

“Most players would probably take that risk — but that doesn’t mean it’s
the sensible or the right thing to do.

“Sometimes you have to protect players from themselves.

“And I think this is one of those occasions.”

利物浦想簽新特蘭前鋒簡韋恩鍾斯, £12m (今季打咗幾場姐, 睇定 D 好喎, 你估真係杜奧巴咩 ...... )
Liverpool are interested in signing Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones and could make a £12m bid for him. (Mirror)
死賓佬咪搞!!
我唔要我愛將做 "高治二世", 比你蹂躪到變成垃圾!!!

你簽親鍾斯我就反死你!!

To Terencey:
