i belive that Gerrard+Carrick can be better than Gerrard+Lampard
based on the performace of carrick in manutd hes like a defensive midfielder more than a central midfielder...plus he can play better passes than hagreaves

but sometimes its hard for the coach to put either one of gerrard or lampard on the bench...
