Transfer shake-up rocks Old Trafford Winker and Ruud's future will be decided with stars Ribery and Torres lined up as replacements

CRISTIANO Ronaldo's agent flew into England last night, intent on thrashing out the controversial winger's long-term future.
And while Manchester United are still desperately hoping that they can persuade the Portugal international to stay at Old Trafford, boss Sir Alex Ferguson has already made a start on finding a replacement for him.
Ronaldo has had talks with United number two Carlos Queiroz, where he reiterated his desire to move abroad, with Real Madrid or Barcelona his favoured destination.
Queiroz will meet the player's agent, Jorge Mendez today, along with chief executive David Gill, as they attempt to ease fears that the 21-year-old will be a marked man in the Premiership following his role in Wayne Rooney's World Cup dismissal.
They will also point out that the winger still has four years left on his contract, and will go nowhere without United's blessing.
But beneath that tough stance, officials at the club know that if Ronaldo sticks to his guns - and has a club to go to - then there is nothing they can do to prevent him from leaving.
And that has seen some frantic activity from manager Ferguson in recent days, as he looks for a replacement for the flying Portugal winger, and for striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, who is also likely to leave.
His agent is also due to fly into Manchester later this week for talks, and it seems likely the Dutchman will leave for either Bayern Munich or Real Madrid for a fee of around £15million.
With Ronaldo commanding somewhere in the region of £20m, Ferguson has a massive war chest with which to look for replacements, and he is aiming high as he attempts to appease the worried Old Trafford faithful.
Fergie has made enquiries about Marseille midfielder Franck Ribery, and he won't be put off by the asking price of around £20m.
He has also made a move for Spain striker Fernando Torres who is available from his club Atletico Madrid, again at a fee of around £20m.
Ferguson flew out to South Africa today ahead of United's pre-season tour, but he expects to be kept busy in the transfer market over the next two weeks as he thrashes out the future of several of his stars.
United are also maintaining an interest in Spurs and England midfielder Michael Carrick, and they have not lost hope of agreeing a fee of £15m for the young star.
Ribery is the one Ferguson wants though. While he is not a direct replacement for Ronaldo he can operate as comfortably on the right as in the centre of midfield, and he has the passing skills to become an instant Old Trafford hero.
Ferguson has also run the rule over Juventus midfielder Pavel Nedved, but fears the Czech Republic star may now be too old at 33 to justify the salary he would command - even if he were to be sold on a free transfer by the ailing Italian club.
More interesting would be World Cup star Mauro Camoranesi, who would be available should last year's Serie A winners be relegated because of the match-fixing scandal in Italy. |
