This painting by Jacque Louis David depicts Napoleon in his famous crossing of the Alps. It took two years to finish, 1800 to 1801.# ?6 s6 [5 a r3 X3 O

Like most of David's portraits of Napoleon, this was a propaganda piece. Napoleon actually crossed the Alps on a mule because mules have better balance and traction, are lower to the ground, and do better in cold weather. ' L+ h0 @% \* j, D& f. \ * L2 M2 C2 q( r4 }5 Y& t6 E2 F0 o, }. I8 j2 I
